All three children follow in dad's footseps to ease patients' pain

READING chiropractor Dr Desmond Pim's children were so impressed by the magic their father works that all three followed him into the profession. And Dr Pim and his children Richard, Michael and Fiona have all been accepted since, en masse, onto the new Register of Chiropractors, set up by the General Chiropractic Council.
Dr Pim, whose clinic is in Kendrick Road, said:
" I think the children followed me into the profession because they were constantly around and hearing about chiropractic. "
Dr Pim was convinced of the value of chiropractic almost 50 years ago after having treatment in Canada for a long-term back problem.
Impressed with the results, he changed careers by enrolling in the Palmer University of Chiropractic in America in 1956.
To escape the harsh Canadian winters, Desmond moved his yound family to Reading in 1963 and was offered the chance to take over the Kendrick Road suregery.
First to follow the family tradition was Richard, who graduated from the same college as his father in 1984. He was soon followed by his brother and sister.
Richard now practises at a surgery in Kidmore Road, Fiona in Crowthorne and Michael at the family practice with his father.
Richard said:
" I think the fact that you deal with people and are not stuck behind a desk fiddling with a mouse and a computer is very attractive. There is nothing better than knowing that you are relieving somebody of their pain. "
Norma Morris chairman of the General Chiropractic Council in 1999 said:
" We are delighted to welcome the Pim family onto our register, it is most unusual to have so many members of one family practicing. But they are certainly ensuring that the health of people in Berkshire is in safe hands. "
